Tarot & Your Life Mission
Just what is Tarot?
Oxford American Dictionary states: ta·rot (ta-roh) n. 1. a deck of twenty-two cards with special pictures, used in fortunetelling. 2. a game played with a pack of seventy-eight cards that are used also for fortunetelling.
Is that all the Tarot is? I don't believe so; that however is my belief. Any and all definitions in addition to the above are just that; beliefs. I believe, my Truth of the Tarot, is that it is a tool for personal and spiritual growth.
The Tarot has been used in a multitude of ways, and for many reasons, all of them the personal choice, and truth for the one using it. History tells us that they were first created and printed for the game tarocchi, that however isn't their whole story. Each of us, each Tarot user gets to define their use individually. We can play with the history, myth, and mystery inherent in the cards. Creating your own Truth.
I have one rule for Tarot, and that rule is wrong: There are no rules in Tarot.
How do I use it?
This lesson is not going to tell or teach any meanings for the cards. It won't tell you what it means when you drawn the Ace of Swords, or the Magician. Today you can open a brand new pack of Tarot and use it, right out of the box.
This may seem a simple use of the cards, however it can be very powerful. It has been for me in my life. In creating the wonderful life I live today in which I do what I love, and love what I do. Believing in what I do, and doing what I believe.
Have you found and worked out your Life Mission? You don't have to be at the final draft, nor does it have to be set in stone. This exercise may in fact help you to get clearer on your Mission, and is the point of the exercise given.
What is your Mission?
- What does it feel like?
- What does it look like?
Go through the pack of Tarot cards and pick out any cards you believe reflect this feeling, or how it looks. How do you look when you are living your Mission?
My Life Mission is: To share on Tarot and Life.
When I began working on a Mission, that is not what it was, it changed and mutated, lost words, and gained words. It was beautifully worded and special to me, it was hard to remember. My Life Mission and my Professional Mission were confusing and intertwined. Then I decided to apply the Tarot. I do this with my daily work, or problems that I'm having, so why not apply it to my Mission? I went through the decks in my mind, and pulled out a few, and ended up picking the Mythic, I went through the cards and chose the Hierophant. The Hierophant in the Mythic Tarot is the centaur Chiron, the King of the Centaurs. The teacher and healer. In Astrology he is call the Wounded Healer. What I am is a teacher. Remember the card choice can change based on your deck choice, because this isn't about what the card means, but what it shows, and how it feels to you.
I teach, in every day, in many situations. I don't teach in the sense that your grade school teacher taught, what I really do is share, and answer any question I'm asked. I fully share of myself, my knowledge, my thoughts. Through this, I learn, and others tell me they do as well. They learn about themselves and what they think, believe, and know. Because I love the Tarot, and what it has done for my life, that is an integral part of who I am, and a part of my Mission Statement. My mission could simply be "I share".
The Hierophant, helped me to have the inner and outer discussion necessary to really see what and who I am, and therefore what my Mission is. An Astrologer and friend Beth Roth, has called me the Practical Coach, saying I take the confusing, and make it simple. I hope that this lesson helps you do that with your own Mission.
Look at the cards you have chosen for your Mission. Think about why you picked the ones you did. What was it that made you chose them? Can you find one that relates the most? Pull the card out, and start thinking, and talking with the card. Who is this card, and how does that fit with how you see yourself? How you live in your highest self. What is it expressing that you want to express? What might it say to you? How would it respond if asked who you are, and what your Mission is? Some of us may find a direct conversation with the card easier then others, do what feels comfortable for you.
Keep this card out and the discussion going (inner or verbal) until you have reached the point you know your Mission is both who you are and what you are doing here on this planet, in this time.
Utilize the card when you are feeling like you need a boost, or to help you focus on your goals. When you need a reminder what it is you believe in, and to remember who you really are. Add it to your Dream Board, or place the image with your Mission statement on your wall.
What's next?
See, no prior Tarot knowledge necessary. This type of working with the Tarot can be used and applied to any situation. Instead of letting the cards share a story, or offer you assistance through the random selection of the cards; chose the card you need to assist you in the moment.
